How to run ads using Facebook Ads Manager

Before you go in and boost your recently uploaded post, its important to think about why you’re advertising and what your goal is. Are you trying to get more people knowing about your business? Do you want to increase website traffic? Are you trying to increase purchases on your recently listed product? These questions will help you in creating your campaign and setting your goal.

Step 1 – Login to Ads Manager

Go to https://business.facebook.com and select the business in which you wish to create the campaign for. Once you’re in the Ads Manager, under the subheading ‘Campaigns’ click the ‘+ Create’ button.

Step 2 – Choose Your Objective

Once you click the ‘+ Create’ button, you will see the below screen. There are 11 options to select from. This is where those earlier questions can help in deciding what you want to achieve from your ad. Hovering over the ‘i’ next to each category will provide a brief description of what the campaign goal is.

Step 3 – Define Your Audience & Budget

This is the crucial step to ensure that people more likely to use your service or purchase your product are the ones seeing your ad. Your audience can be defined based on the following categories:

  • Location
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Interests
  • Behaviours
  • Connections

When defining your audience, Ads Manager displays the audience size based on each category you select. Once your audience is defined, you can set your budget. This can be set as a lifetime budget that once reached, the ad will stop or it can be set as a daily budget for a set period.

Step 4 – Edit Placements

This is where you can choose where your ad is shown. Creating an Ad for Instagram stories vs Instagram Feed varies given the dimensions. Instagram story recommends fullscreen vertical images or videos whereas Instagram Feed recommends 1:1 images and 4:5 videos.

Step 5 – Creating Your Ad

Now its time to choose your image or video, headline, text and external link (if redirecting your audience). There are 2 ways to create your ad – using an existing post or creating a new one just for your ad. Once you have selected or created the image or video you are going to use, a preview of the ad will be shown for placement in stories and feeds.

Step 6 – Confirm Your Ad

After confirming your ad, Facebook will review it before your ad goes live, to ensure it meets Facebooks requirements.

Once your ad is live, you can track how well it is doing under ‘Campaigns’. Data such as Reach, Impressions, Link Clicks, Cost per Result and Amount Spent are all shown here. By clicking ‘view charts’ under your campaign, you can also view data such as Demographics (age and gender), Placement and Delivery.

One thing to remember is that your conversions may not happen overnight. It takes trial and error in order to determine which types of ads best suit your business and finding your target audience.
